The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) is the largest in Greece covering all disciplines. It is widely recognized as a vibrant centre of learning. The School of Medicine is one of the most important and well-established Schools in Greece, both quantitatively and qualitatively, comprising the biggest School in the country regarding its enrolment. The faculty of the School of Medicine is the stuff of several hospitals as well as other units of the National Health System, and thus provides an important social work. The School offers eighteen Postgraduate Programmes, some of them are Interdepartmental / Interinstitutional Postgraduate Programs, and participates in six more.

The Lab of Computing, Medical Informatics and Biomedical Imaging Technologies (LOMI) at the AUTH was founded in 1990 and has possessed a continuous role in Medical Informatics and Biomedical Engineering research and development. Since 1998, the Lab has run the graduate programme in Medical Informatics. Within the Lab, the BiOasys group, lead by I Chouvarda, works mainly on the development of biomedical data analytic methods & integrated data-driven approaches, the exploration of AI for health-related predictive models, the incorporation of AI in connected health technologies & systems medicine, and the link between systems medicine, daily life health data & connected health technologies.

They hold meetings, workshops and training days that promote this objective, whether it is in the area of rare diseases, clinical trials, Health Technology Assessment, innovation, health information, connected health – or any other relevant topic that will promote patient understanding, and patient involvement in the treatment and decision-making processes that affect them in Ireland and Europe. IPPOSI membership is open to all groups with an interest in healthcare and research and development; Patient Representatives, Academic, Science or the Healthcare Industry.

The Teaching and Learning Lab (LEA) promotes and disseminates pedagogical initiatives at the Faculty of Engineering to promote the professional development of its academic staff in the pedagogical area.
